Shag on Sports Oh no. Not Again.

(via FanHouse):

The Mid-American Conference, in coordination with recent rebranding initiatives on MAC campuses the past several years, unveiled its new marks today (July 1) that celebrate the tradition of the league and embodies a fresh brand identity.

That new logo sure does… lean to the right. And embrace the color scheme of the Whale.

But as the folks at the Haus point out, much like good is better than bad because it’s nicer, this logo is miles better than what was:

(Also, apologies for the large gap in updates. Nothing’s really tickled my fancy as of late, and I’m just coming off a week of vacation. Plus, you don’t want me writing about what happened last week in regards to my Blue Jackets. But hey, they did sign Mike Commodore, who I will lovingly refer to as Red, White, and Blue Jacket.)

Coming up this Sunday during the pregame show of the Rockets/Falcons game, I’ll be talking to Matt Sussman of the Futon Report about the state of MAC Basketball this season, and a little about how Toledo and BG match up. In all actuality, we recorded it today, but seeing as Suss will be out of the freaking country, I think you’ll understand.

It’s a 4pm tipoff, scoreboard show starts at 3pm, the chat will run around 3:10-3:15.

I talked to Mark Beier about Nick Kaczur’s name. Apparently it was pronounced KAH-zhur all along, but when he got to Toledo, everybody pronounced it KAY-zur, and he never bothered to correct anybody.

Hell, if Joe Theismann can do it, why not Nick?

As I hastily prepared for Toledo’s game against Akron today, I was immensely ready to “Fear the Roo”. The Rockets have yet to win on the road, and the ‘kron hadn’t lost at James A. Rhodes Arena for 20 straight, and 41 of their last 42. The Rockets certainly had their work cut out for them.

But there was a ray of hope once we heard from Mark Beier out on site… 3 of Akron’s best players were questionable for the game, including leading scorer Jeremiah Wood. Could the Rockets have caught the Zips on an off day?

There are times, albeit few and far between, that I can actually take pride in my work. Today was one of those times.

Brian and Fred were discussing Lucas County’s plans to hire a Poet Laureate, and the humor within. Everybody was getting their poems in, so I figured, why can’t I?

Talk to you tomorrow on air, I’m doing scoreboard for Toledo/Pittsburgh. I’ll bring the ice packs, you bring the smelling salts.

Update: Something was screwy in the file I uploaded before. I’ve re-upped it.
