Shag on Sports Oh no. Not Again.

WHAT?!

Last week, the report hit the wires that Canada’s national broadcaster, the CBC, had come to an impasse with the rights holder to the theme from Hockey Night in Canada, the network’s, and the nation’s, signature television program.

But now, CTV, the parent company to Canada’s TSN and RDS sports networks, has stepped in and swiped that theme right out from under the CBC. As a result, CTV will now be using that theme music over its telecasts of the NHL beginning this Fall, and as part of its hockey coverage during the 2010 Winter Olympics from Vancouver.

…WHAT?!

I JUS… HOW DOES… I DON’T…

YOU SHUT UP. YOU SHUT UP.

(Leave it to a government-run operation to botch something up this horribly.)

Over here, Matt Sussman puts into words what I won’t even attempt. Not only does he express our deepest thoughts and sympathies to those affected by the shootings at Northern Illinois University, but he also delves into why we seem to feel this personal connection with a school community that we really only knew prior as “that team with the short guy at running back”.

Doctors

Nearly Paralyzed?

Ice Skate to the Throat?

Another Ice Skate to the Throat?

The Buffalo Area Medical Team is here to help. There’s no freakish, nearly-tragic sports injury they haven’t seen, and you can rest assured that you’re being watched by the best doctors in the known and unknown universes. Also, the medical staff is apparently entirely female, which is pretty cool I suppose.

In all seriousness, I wish all the best for Richard Zednik, and if the other two links up there are any indication, he really is in the best care. Really weird that those all happened in Buffalo. I’m pretty certain I don’t want to live there, but if I get a sprained ankle, you best airlift me.

You see, this is why I refuse to say the “P” word. You know, the one that rhymes with “layoffs”.

I’ll admit it, I thought that Michigan didn’t have a chance against Florida. SEC vs. Big Ten, right? I felt so strongly about this, that I dissed the Capital One Bowl for the NHL Winter Classic.

Well… crap.

As I’m sure those of you with half of a brain know, Michigan hung with the Gators, and eventually pulled one out for Lloyd Carr’s last go-around.

Meanwhile, the outdoor game was sluggish, sloppy, and had way too many stops for my liking to fix the ice. Some hockey fans loved it (especially the 70k in attendance), but really, if they’re going to do it again, make it the all-star game. Because anybody who made the same mistake I did of watching this over college bowl action will not be making the same mistake next year.
