Shag on Sports Oh no. Not Again.

WHAT?!

Last week, the report hit the wires that Canada’s national broadcaster, the CBC, had come to an impasse with the rights holder to the theme from Hockey Night in Canada, the network’s, and the nation’s, signature television program.

But now, CTV, the parent company to Canada’s TSN and RDS sports networks, has stepped in and swiped that theme right out from under the CBC. As a result, CTV will now be using that theme music over its telecasts of the NHL beginning this Fall, and as part of its hockey coverage during the 2010 Winter Olympics from Vancouver.

…WHAT?!

I JUS… HOW DOES… I DON’T…

YOU SHUT UP. YOU SHUT UP.

(Leave it to a government-run operation to botch something up this horribly.)

While Big Brown won yesterday’s Kentucky Derby by 4 3/4 lengths, the real story happened after the race.

Eight Belles, a filly who was trying to become the 4th to win the Derby, ended up in second place. But as her rider tried to pull her up, the horse broke both of her ankles. She fell on the track and would not get back up. But in an amazing show of sportshorseship, the other horses on the track would not let Eight Belles suffer. They, instead, picked up the filly on their backs, and as the crowd began to clap slowly, carried her into the veterinarian’s office to be euthanized.

“What an amazing display of what it’s all about,” said Dr. Larry Bramdlidge, the doctor who sent Eight Belles to her death. “Those horses wouldn’t let their compatriot suffer on the track. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Trainer Larry Jones was moved to tears. “It was absolutely amazing that the other horses took care of my filly. My only regret is that she could not thank them herself.”

Wow. Honestly, I think this is the most offensive thing I’ve ever written.

I’m going to try and update this to 2.5. If I don’t make it back, tell my blog I love her.

UPDATE: And we’re at 2.5. I don’t know why I get nervous about things like this, but I do.

Monday, February 11th:

“For us to make the numbers work in a deal like that, we’d have to trade away half the team,” Cuban told The New York Daily News. “We’re not doing that, so it just doesn’t work. And, we like our team. We’ve got a lot of room for improvement and we hope to get better. But right now, I just don’t see anything happening.”

Today:

Sources told ESPN.com that the Mavericks and Nets on Wednesday reached an agreement in principle on a Kidd deal after talks had seemingly stalled last week, moving the teams to brink of completing the NBA’s third blockbuster deal of the month.

Although sources say that the teams are still sorting out final details, this deal was described as “imminent” by multiple sources close to the process after negotiations moved to an advanced stage Tuesday night. The proposed swap — salvaged from talks on a three-way trade with Portland that developed and fizzled quickly two weeks ago — would require Dallas to send 24-year-old point guard Devin Harris, veteran swingman Jerry Stackhouse, the expiring contracts of center DeSagana Diop and swingman Devean George and guard Maurice Ager to New Jersey for Kidd and forward Malik Allen.

Damn you.

UPDATE: AW HELL NAW

You know, for this to be “the lull” in sports, it’s been too fast for me to keep up.

Back on Monday I started to write an article that was going to rip into Tom Brady and Randy Moss for dropping out of the Pro Bowl, then rip the Pro Bowl for being so damn unnecessary. When I opened it back up on Tuesday, it was already old news… Bob Knight decided he was going to up and quit (or die, in which it’s one hell of a cover up). And today, not only do you have National Signing Day (or Imaginary Signing Day), but you also have quite possibly the worst trade ever in the long, sad history of bad trades.

So here… before anybody else gets to it… aw hell do I have to?
