Shag on Sports Oh no. Not Again.

As I did a little New Year Cleaning out of some of my crap, I started to throw away my trusty copy of Phil Steele’s College Football book. I don’t buy into the predictions, but he does do a lot of work with all of the schedules, the recent history of the teams, etc. etc. etc.

But on the front few pages are his Bowl Predictions. I don’t know why you would even TRY to predict this stuff (save the BCS bowls), but he went through every last one. Well now that everything is all set (and some of the games are already in the books), lets see how Mr. Steele did:

While looking around for a listing of college bowl Tie-Ins (Because, I’ll Admit, I don’t know the exact tie-ins for the Alamo Bowl), I came across this list of headlines along the side of one page:

BCS Headlines

Wow… that’s really… loaded. Of course, I didn’t realize until after the fact what page I was actually reading…

BCS Page

Ah. Gotcha. Anyways, the project I’m working on will probably be up by Wednesday (since I’ll be out all day today and tomorrow), so for now, have a Merry Christmas and all that jazz.

We finally got our BCS Armageddon. OSU, VaTech, Georgia, Oklahoma, and LSU all have viable claims to the Championship Game. The voters will most likely send the Buckeyes and the LSU “Hey, we’re undefeated in regulation!” Tigers. With any luck, The Bucks will start strong, LSU will fight back to win, and Michigan fan will cry a lone tear in thoughts of what might have been.

But for all the folks earlier in the week who were saying “SEE, THE BCS WORKS”, where is your computer god now? These folks say that the regular season is a playoff, but that didn’t happen in this case. To put this in the terms of the NFL playoffs, we just saw New England get upset by San Diego in the Divisional Playoffs, along with the Colts being upset by the Steelers. The Steelers then lose to the Chargers, but because San Diego plays in the weak AFC West, they just decide to send New England to the Super Bowl anyways.

Of course, for the folks running the bowls, this is awesome. You really think they wanted Missouri and West Virginia in their marquee game? Bullcrap. They want that just as badly as the NFL wants San Diego and Tampa Bay in their Super Bowl. And now, they’ll get it. Instead of getting a “rightful champion”, they’ll get who the human polls deems popular.

Playoffs, NOW.
