In true 1st seed vs. 4th seed fashion, this wasn’t close. But it provides an interesting angle as do just how bad you have to be to be an epic failure. I mean, while everybody got swept up in the Lions halfway-decent start, the collapse down the stretch showed that they were who we thought they were™. The 2001 Lions, however, weren’t just bad. They were cover-your-eyes-how-did-our-team-turn-into-this bad. And boy, did that ever show.
Game 1:

Was not expecting a shootout throughout this entire affair. But if the defense blows, why not? Kitna had a pick returned for a touchdown by Bryant Westbrook, but hit Mike Furrey and Aveion Cason (?!) to take the lead back. Cason would score again (this time for the ‘01 team), and the lead would go back to ‘01. But it wouldn’t last, as Charlie Batch gets sacked in the end zone by Jared DeVries for a safety, and TJ Duckett scored with 2 minutes left to take the lead.
Kitna ended 26-43 for 427 yards, 3 touchdowns, 2 picks. Charlie batch, 13-22, 247 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 INT.
1-0
Game 2:

Charlie Batch was harassed all day (SHOCK!), and ended up tasting turf 4 times. Kitna hit Shaun McDonald and Roy Williams for touchdowns, and Kevin Jones scored one on the ground, he ended with 70 yards. All in all, total domination for the ‘07.
2-0
Game 3:

Oh my.
Up until the 4th quarter, Morningweg maiden team never got past the 35 yard line. Amusingly enough, in the 4th quarter, they finally broke into the red zone, and Batch hit Larry Foster for a score. BUT WAIT, THE LATE FLAG! (I swear the simulator threw the penalty flag… I don’t know if it was late or not.) Offensive holding, the touchdown was negated. For last year’s squad, Kitna hit Roy Williams, CJ, and Mike Furrey for the win.
3-0
Game 4:

Much like the real ‘01 team, this one decided it wasn’t going to start winning until it was too late. Ruben Droughnes scored his first TD of the sim in the 2nd, and James Stewart picked up two TDs in the 3rd.
Near the end of the first half, Charlie Batch hit David Sloan near the opposing 18, but fumbled the ball. With 1:35 left, Kitna marched the team down to the other 28, but Jason Hanson’s FG was blocked. What a fantastic series of failures.
Speaking of failure, Kitna was picked off twice, still finished with 300+ yards in the air.
3-1
Game 5:

Kitna hits Shaun McDonald on the first play from scrimmage, and he goes 63 yards for the score. It would be Kitna’s only TD pass, but Duckett and Johnson both score on the ground. Meanwhile, Charlie Batch was picked off 3 times, twice in the 3rd quarter… he connects with Johnnie Morton with 6 seconds left to make it respectable.
4-1
So congrats to the 2007 Lions for taking down a team that had absolutely no idea what it was doing. The 2001 Lions will face the “winner” of 2002 vs. 1942, which will be coming in the next couple of days.
