Shag on Sports Oh no. Not Again.

As I hastily prepared for Toledo’s game against Akron today, I was immensely ready to “Fear the Roo”. The Rockets have yet to win on the road, and the ‘kron hadn’t lost at James A. Rhodes Arena for 20 straight, and 41 of their last 42. The Rockets certainly had their work cut out for them.

But there was a ray of hope once we heard from Mark Beier out on site… 3 of Akron’s best players were questionable for the game, including leading scorer Jeremiah Wood. Could the Rockets have caught the Zips on an off day?

Apparently, it was just an off half. The three injured players were certainly off their game, and the Rockets jumped out to a 14 point lead before settling on a 33-28 halftime score. However, at the break, the entire Rockets team got locked into their locker room, and cyborgs cleverly disguised as the team came out to play instead. The failure was epic. The most telling stat: Jonathan Amos and Tyrone Kent combined to shoot 3-22. 3 or 4 of those were easy layups that Amos simply botched.

If someone can break the team free from the JAR (where they may or may not serve whiskey), they’ll play this Saturday at home against Kent State. Good thing, too… the team’s only wins have come at Savage Hall.
