There isn’t much that’s taboo when it comes to humor anymore. And It’s always funny to make fun of old people. But last I checked, it was still a no-no to talk about them dying. Especially in public. Doubly so when they’re backstage.
[Joe] Paterno thought the Texas A&M Yell Leader who made a disparaging remark about the 81-year-old legend during a joint pep rally was also “trying to be funny.” But Paterno otherwise brushed off the Yell Leader’s comment that has created a firestorm leading up to Saturday’s game.
“Joe Paterno’s on his death bed! And someone needs to find him a casket!” the Yell Leader screamed Thursday night in a Riverwalk auditorium filled with A&M and Penn State fans.
The crowd rightfully turned on him, and the University fell all over themselves to apologize. The Ancient One, however, didn’t let him bother him.
“Some young guy got up there and he’s trying to be funny. Maybe he’s accurate, I don’t know.”
He then sealed an envelope filled with anthrax and mailed it to Bobby Bowden.
What? I kid!
